Commvault acquires Appranix to enhance global cyber resilience
Commvault, a provider of cyber resilience and data protection solutions for the hybrid cloud, has announced the acquisition of Appranix, known for cloud cyber resilience. The principal goal of this union is to assist enterprises in swiftly regaining operational capacity post-outages or cyberattacks.
Recent data from Statista highlights an alarming average downtime of 24 days following a ransomware attack. Through the integration of automation and next-generation cleanroom offerings, Commvault aims to minimise this period by facilitating swift data recovery. However, rapid data restoration is only one part of the solution matrix needed to recover from such disruptions.
Rebuilding critical cloud applications also requires addressing a range of related dependencies. These include network management, DNS configuration, application load balancing, security group access, and beyond. Appranix's automated system greatly simplifies this process, reducing the rebuilding timeframe from potentially weeks to merely hours or even minutes in some instances.
Sanjay Mirchandani, President & CEO of Commvault, recognises the significance of this acquisition, "We are taking resilience to the next level by marrying Commvault's extensive risk, readiness, and recovery capabilities with Appranix's next-generation cloud-native rebuild capabilities." He further welcomed Appranix into the Commvault family.
Appranix Founder and CEO Govind Rangasamy echoed the exciting partnership: "Joining the Commvault family is a thrilling and natural next step for Appranix as we jointly change the market." Rangasamy believes that their shared vision extends beyond mere traditional backups and disaster recovery, asserting that their amalgamation will offer "comprehensive, unmatched resilience capabilities for businesses globally."
Archana Venkatraman, Research Director, Cloud Ops and Cloud Data Management, IDC, clarifies that complete cyber resilience remains an aspirational objective for a majority of enterprise customers. However, this acquisition may bring the industry a step closer to making cyber resilience-at-speed a reality through automated rebuild capabilities catering to distributed and dynamic cloud applications.
The Appranix team is set to join Commvault without delay and the integration of Appranix's technology into the Commvault portfolio is projected to be fulfilled by this summer. During this transition period, customers can use Appranix's technology for their cloud application rediscovery and rebuild requirements via several cloud marketplaces.
