Tech Data has signed a distribution agreement with Wasabi Technologies covering Singapore and Malaysia.

The deal adds Wasabi's cloud storage products to Tech Data's regional portfolio for channel partners, including resellers and managed service providers serving demand for storage, backup, archiving, disaster recovery and ransomware protection.

Both companies are targeting a market shaped by rising data volumes and wider use of artificial intelligence and analytics tools, which are increasing storage requirements across businesses. In Singapore, 53% of organisations expect their cloud storage needs to double by 2028, according to figures cited by Tech Data.

Regional push

Products covered by the agreement include Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage, an S3-compatible object storage service for frequently accessed data. The portfolio also includes Wasabi Cloud NAS for file-based workflows, Wasabi Surveillance Cloud, and integrations with backup and recovery suppliers including Veeam, Commvault and Rubrik.

The arrangement broadens Tech Data's cloud and data management offering in two Southeast Asian markets where customers are reassessing how they store and protect data as cloud adoption expands. Partners will also be able to use local billing and support services as part of the rollout.

Access to Tech Data's support structure is central to the agreement. This includes its Tech Centre of Excellence, partner enablement resources, cloud marketplace tools and financing options, intended to help partners bring storage and data protection offerings to market.

Mark Tan outlined the rationale for adding Wasabi to the portfolio.

"Wasabi is a strong addition to Tech Data's cloud and data management portfolio, addressing fast-growing demand in Singapore and Malaysia for cost-efficient storage, backup and cyber-resilience solutions," said Mark Tan, Vice President, Tech Data Singapore & Tec D Malaysia.

"As organisations face rapid data growth, accelerating cloud adoption, heightened ransomware and compliance concerns, and continued pressure to optimise IT spend, Wasabi gives partners an affordable, secure and cloud-first solution to help SMB and enterprise customers modernise backup and archive without hyperscaler cost unpredictability. It also complements our existing cloud and cybersecurity ecosystem and supports our strategy to grow recurring, consumption-based cloud revenue," Tan added.

Storage demand

The partnership reflects a broader shift in enterprise infrastructure spending across Southeast Asia, where companies are scrutinising storage costs more closely as data sets expand. Predictable pricing has become a key issue for customers seeking to avoid unexpected charges tied to retrieval, egress or scaling.

Wasabi positions its main storage product as an alternative to more complex cloud storage pricing structures, aimed at customers handling AI, analytics, enterprise applications, cyber-resilience and cloud-native workloads.

Its object storage service also includes features such as object lock, immutability and versioning, which are commonly used to reduce the impact of ransomware attacks and preserve data integrity. S3 compatibility is intended to ease migration from existing environments while maintaining links with current applications and backup workflows.

For Wasabi, the arrangement expands its route to market through a distributor with established relationships across the regional channel. That matters in markets where vendors often depend on local resellers and service providers to reach mid-sized businesses and larger enterprises.

Raymond Koh said the company sees both countries as growth markets.

"Singapore and Malaysia are important growth markets for Wasabi as organisations look for a smarter alternative to complex and unpredictable cloud storage models," said Raymond Koh, ASEAN Country Manager, Wasabi Technologies.

"Tech Data's deep channel relationships, local presence and ability to help partners build complete data protection and cloud solutions make it an ideal distributor to expand our reach and support customers across the region," Koh added.

Across its wider business, Tech Data supports more than 150,000 customers in over 100 countries, giving Wasabi access to a distributor with a broad existing network in hardware, software and cloud services.
