Akai unveils Digital Wash top-load washing machines in India

Fri, 30th Jan 2026

Akai India has launched a new range of top-load fully automatic washing machines in India under its Digital Wash line.

The company said the lineup includes Deep Clean Technology with Sheen, a built-in heater and inverter technology. It positions the launch as part of a broader push into home appliances, alongside televisions, interactive displays, audio systems, and air conditioners.

The new models are available in capacities of 7.5kg, 8kg, 9kg, 10kg, and 12kg. Akai said the range includes an anti-bacterial drum coat and a multi-wash programme.

Akai listed a set of functions across the lineup. These include a Magic Filter, Waterfall, Memory Function, and a buzzer. The machines also include low-water-pressure operation, an anti-rat design, low-noise operation, a quick-wash option, and auto-balance.

The company said the models also include a child lock, auto power-off and restart, and a soft-closing lid. It said the range comes with plastic and glass lids and in Mid-Black and Inox Grey colour variants.

Warranty and service

Akai said the Digital Wash range includes a 10-year warranty on its fully automatic wash motors. The company did not disclose pricing for the new models or the retail channels through which it expects to sell them.

Akai also pointed to its service coverage in India. It said it has 1,200 service centres across 28 states and coverage across 1,900 pin codes. The company described the network as part of its appliance customer support proposition.

Consumer focus

Akai framed the launch around value-led purchasing behaviour and reliability. The company also highlighted demand patterns beyond major metropolitan areas.

"Indian consumers today are value-driven, looking for products that offer long-term reliability, ease of use and honest pricing. Purchasing decisions are guided by confidence and consistent performance rather than features alone. This mindset is especially strong in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where families prioritize stability and reliable service. At AKAI, we combine Japanese engineering with practical innovation to provide washing machines designed for real Indian conditions - enabling consumers in emerging and urban India to confidently invest in quality, efficiency and lasting performance at the right price," said Anurag Sharma, Managing Director & CEO, Akai India.

The Indian washing machine market has seen steady competition between global consumer electronics brands and local players, with product updates often focused on capacity bands, wash programmes and after-sales support. Companies have also pitched features around water supply conditions, usage patterns and noise levels in residential settings.

Akai described its brand heritage as rooted in Japan and said it has operated for more than 90 years since its founding in Tokyo in 1929. It uses the phrase "MOTTAINAI" and links it to a product philosophy that emphasises simplicity and durability.

The company said it has expanded beyond audio products to a broader consumer electronics portfolio. It lists televisions, interactive displays, audio systems, washing machines and air conditioners among its product categories.

Akai did not provide shipment targets or manufacturing details for the new washing machine range. It also did not state whether the lineup includes different energy ratings or smart connectivity options.

The company said the new Digital Wash machines are now available in India in multiple capacities and design variants.
