Tata boosts AI cloud with NVIDIA upgrades in India

Tue, 5th Nov 2024

Tata Communications has announced a significant upgrade to its AI cloud infrastructure in India, utilising NVIDIA Hopper GPUs to enhance its capabilities.

The move will see Tata Communications integrate advanced NVIDIA software solutions, such as NVIDIA NIM microservices, alongside the NVIDIA Omniverse and NVIDIA Isaac platforms, into its AI Cloud offerings. These solutions are expected to equip businesses with a suite of tools and services aimed at AI-driven simulation and automation, among other applications.

The initial phase of this development is set to commence at the end of the year, marking Tata Communications as one of the largest NVIDIA Hopper GPU cloud-based supercomputers in India. The expansion is anticipated to elevate the company's position as a significant enabler of AI applications across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, retail, banking and financial services.

AS Lakshminarayanan, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Communications, commented, "AI is expanding the boundaries of innovation and revolutionising business in ways we could never have imagined. Therefore, every entity must prioritise AI integration to stay competitive. We are delighted to partner with NVIDIA to build a unique and transformative Cloud Fabric to empower a generation of Indian innovators and entrepreneurs, fostering a vibrant AI ecosystem and propelling the nation towards a future fuelled by AI."

In addition to the immediate rollout, Tata Communications plans to expand further in 2025 with the incorporation of Blackwell GPUs. These strategic advancements aim to transform the AI landscape for businesses, offering platforms such as the AI studio, AI Workbench, Model Garden, Responsible AI, and serverless functions.

The enhanced infrastructure will leverage Tata Communications' IZO Multi-Cloud Connect platform to streamline distributed data management, ensuring efficiency in data collection and curation across enterprise systems. This aims for a cost-effective and scalable approach while maintaining existing data structures.

Moreover, the CloudLyte Edge Computing platform will facilitate low-latency inferencing, enabling businesses to implement models at the edge for immediate responses. This suite of innovations is poised to empower enterprises to fully capitalise on AI capabilities.

Jay Puri, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations at NVIDIA, remarked, "Tata Communications' AI cloud infrastructure, integrating NVIDIA accelerated computing, will support businesses of all sizes – from AI startups to large enterprises – helping drive artificial intelligence transformation across various sectors of the Indian economy and creating a powerful ecosystem for AI innovation."

Tata Communications customers will also have access to the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform on this advanced infrastructure, enabling them to build, customise, and execute generative and agent-based AI applications. This includes functionalities like the NVIDIA NIM Agent Blueprints for deploying digital human technologies, AI virtual assistants, enterprise data retrieval, and cybersecurity workflows.

With ongoing integrations of NVIDIA technologies, Tata Communications aims to further demonstrate its role in advancing AI infrastructure and services, providing a foundation for AI adoption across industries in India.
