Sony unveils CFexpress 4.0 cards & MRW-G3 reader in India
Sony has released its new CFexpress 4 Standard Type A memory cards and a compatible card reader for Cinema Line and Alpha mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras in India.

The new products include the CEA-G1920T (1920 GB) and CEA-G960T (960 GB) memory cards, as well as the MRW-G3 card reader. The cards are built to comply with the latest CFexpress 4 standard, offering compatibility with modern professional cameras and devices.
These cards deliver read speeds of up to 1800 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1700 MB/s, which, according to Sony, is more than double the speed of previous models. The increased capacities - 1920 GB and 960 GB - are designed to support workflows that involve large volumes of high-resolution images or prolonged video recording in 4K and above.
Video and workflow capabilities
Sony stated that the CFexpress Type A cards sustain a minimum write speed of 400 MB/s. This feature supports uninterrupted recording of high-bitrate video, reducing the chances of dropped frames and supporting cinematic-quality video capture.
The cards are also intended to improve post-production efficiency. The fast transfer rates enable large files to be moved quickly from the memory card to editing systems, shortening waiting times for professionals working on high-quality imaging projects.
Physical durability and design
According to Sony, the cards can withstand bending forces over ten times greater than earlier CFexpress Type A standards, with durability up to 150 newton force. The resin body construction offers five times more impact resistance compared to previous models, and the cards are rated to survive drops from heights of up to 7.5 meters. This level of resilience is targeted at professionals who frequently work in outdoor or challenging environments.
The compact size of the cards is designed to maintain compatibility with smaller, lightweight camera bodies, which are commonly used in professional photography and videography equipment. This supports users who prioritise portability without compromising on data capacity or speed.
MRW-G3 card reader details
The MRW-G3 card reader is designed for the new CFexpress Type A memory cards. It supports USB connections up to 40 Gbps, enabling the swift transfer of large files, such as high-resolution photos and 4K video footage.
The device is compatible with computers, smartphones, and tablets, supporting workflows that span across different platforms. The reader incorporates a heat-dissipation structure to manage high temperatures during intensive use, ensuring reliable data transfers and sustained performance.

The pricing in India is set at INR 97,490 for the CEA-G1920T (1920 GB), INR 59,990 for the CEA-G960T (960 GB), and INR 17,990 for the MRW-G3 card reader. They are available at Sony retail stores, major electronic stores, and through various eCommerce portals.
