Lufthansa Systems partners with Alhindair for charting solutions

Mon, 1st Sep 2025

Lufthansa Systems has announced a partnership with Indian start-up airline Alhindair for the provision of charting solutions.

Alhindair, based in Kochi, is set to become the first airline in India to implement Lufthansa Systems' Lido Route Manual as part of its flight operations support.

The agreement marks both Lufthansa Systems' inaugural partnership for charting solutions in the Indian aviation market and a significant step for Alhindair, which plans to begin operations in October 2025.

Paper-based to digital

Alhindair will initially utilise the paper-based Lido Route Manual, which is designed to meet the requirements of commercial aviation. The manual offers to-scale charts oriented to magnetic north, a standardised layout, and intuitive colour coding to enhance situational awareness for pilots. Key elements, such as flight procedures and terrain information, are embedded within the chart to assist pilots in maintaining their orientation. This approach also supports regulatory compliance and helps ensure that operational reliability is established from the outset of Alhindair's services.

Reena Rahman, Chief Operating Officer and Accountable Manager at Alhindair, stated that the partnership provides an operational advantage as the airline prepares for commercial services.

"Lido Route Manual provides the reliable foundation we need to ensure safe and standardized navigation from day one. As a start-up carrier preparing for our first flights, having a proven and trusted charting solution in place is essential for building efficient and compliant flight operations from the ground up."

As part of its long-term strategy, Alhindair also intends to adopt Lido mPilot, Lufthansa Systems' digital charting platform for electronic flight bags (EFBs). The application supplies pilots with dynamically generated enroute maps and terminal charts, an Airport Moving Map, weather overlays, and operational documents through a single interface. This transition to digital is expected to contribute to improved flight preparation, enhanced situational awareness, and increased efficiency, with the added benefit of real-time updates throughout every phase of flight.

Market entry

Lufthansa Systems views the partnership as an important market development. The company's Lido suite provides a scalable platform for navigation and flight planning, and the collaboration with Alhindair could facilitate its wider adoption in the region.

Ashish Ahuja, Vice President, Sales & Client Management Indian Subcontinent at Lufthansa Systems Asia Pacific, said:

"This partnership marks an important milestone for Lufthansa Systems, as it represents the first entry of our charting solutions into the Indian aviation market. We are proud to accompany Alhindair on its journey and look forward to providing modern and flexible navigation solutions to more airlines across the region."

Building operational foundations

Alhindair has identified Lufthansa Systems as its core flight operations partner, setting the stage for the carrier to develop its operational infrastructure around the Lido product suite. The arrangement is intended to facilitate a gradual transition from paper-based to digital navigation tools as the business expands.

The partnership also aligns with regulatory expectations for Indian carriers, ensuring compliance from the first flight through to scalable digital adoption.

Alhindair's initial use of Lido Route Manual and future plans for Lido mPilot highlight a phased approach to adopting new navigation technologies within the Indian regional aviation sector.
