Dell PowerStore joins Nutanix Cloud Platform in APJ

Dell and Nutanix have made Dell PowerStore available with Nutanix Cloud Platform, with support available in Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure 7.6.

The move brings Dell's PowerStore storage system to Nutanix environments running the AHV hypervisor and marks the second Dell storage platform integrated with Nutanix after PowerFlex.

PowerStore is an all-flash storage platform based on NVMe technology. In Nutanix environments, it allows compute and storage to scale independently rather than requiring both to expand together.

The integration works through Prism, Nutanix's management interface. Tasks including provisioning, snapshots, clones and virtual hard disk expansion can be handled within the existing Nutanix environment.

Dell is also pairing the offering with Dell Private Cloud, which provides automated deployment, lifecycle management and system-level hardware support across the stack. Together, the two companies present this as a validated way to run Nutanix with external storage rather than relying solely on hyperconverged infrastructure.

The launch builds on a long-running relationship between the two companies. The latest product support extends a 14-year partnership and expands Dell's infrastructure options for Nutanix deployments across private cloud, disaggregated systems and data protection.

Storage option

For Nutanix customers, the announcement broadens the storage choices available within the platform. Dell said PowerStore provides end-to-end NVMe all-flash storage, while the architecture allows organisations to add PowerEdge compute nodes or expand PowerStore capacity separately based on workload demand.

The companies also highlighted cyber resilience and backup features tied to the integration. Protection policies can be managed through Prism, while remote backups can be handled through Dell PowerProtect Data Manager for longer-term retention and cloud archiving.

Dell also cited a 6:1 data reduction guarantee through deduplication and compression, along with granular scaling through its Dynamic Resiliency Engine that allows storage expansion one drive at a time.

Operational fit

A key part of the launch is preserving the operational model Nutanix customers already use. Dell and Nutanix said the PowerStore integration does not require separate management tools or additional staff training because it operates within Prism.

The companies are targeting organisations that want external storage performance without giving up the management simplicity associated with Nutanix deployments. That may appeal to businesses running databases, core applications and analytics workloads that need dedicated storage resources while keeping their existing virtualisation layer.

Dell also cited Omdia analysis on the broader private cloud integration around Nutanix. According to the companies, Omdia found that Dell Private Cloud can "deploy workload-ready clusters in approximately 2.5 hours, with zero manual effort needed after hardware installation, representing over 90% fewer steps compared to manual deployment methods."

APJ focus

The companies positioned the launch as relevant for customers in Asia-Pacific and Japan seeking more flexible infrastructure designs.
