SmartBear boosts India's tech industry with new DevOps Academy in Bangalore
Fri, 29th Mar 2024

SmartBear, a software development and visibility solutions provider, has reinforced its resources in India by increasing investment and launching a new DevOps Academy in Bangalore. The establishment of this Academy is in response to the growing demand for skilled cloud engineers in the region. It aligns with the developing potential for software development solutions in India.

The Bangalore-based academy represents the investment in human capital. The Academy offers best-in-class DevOps training, which prepares entry-level participants for successful careers as cloud engineers. SmartBear's investment in India began last year with the launch of an office in Bangalore. The company now supports over 150 local customers across various sectors, including fintech, healthcare, transportation, and logistics.

Dan Faulkner, Chief Product Officer at SmartBear, explained the company's strategy: "The potential market for software development solutions in India is substantial and continues to expand rapidly, as does the increasing demand for skilled developers and cloud engineers. We are actively engaging in the recruitment, training, and mentorship of software engineers, bringing technical talent into the company's learning centre of excellence. SmartBear is proud to continue its commitment to India and the Bangalore community."

The SmartBear DevOps Academy program is a comprehensive eight-week initiative. With over 4,000 applications received, it leverages a successful model based on SmartBear's Developer Academy in Poland and includes a mix of in-classroom, online, and practical learning for career progression. Features of the program include diverse project planning collaborations with developers, automation engineers, product managers, and UI/UX designers.

The Developer Academy program in Poland proved highly effective, with a 91% conversion of interns into full-time employees. Encouragingly, the Academy also showed a trend towards greater diversity, with women making up nearly 20% of the first 2023 class and 36% in the following class. Here in Bangalore, SmartBear is now collaborating with local universities, institutions, and regional channel partners to attract the best and most diverse new talent to their program.

Graduates from SmartBear's DevOps Academy in Bangalore earn placement in one of the company's award-winning product groups, which include test management and automation, API development, and application stability. This year, SmartBear plans to combine its toolset into three integrated hubs: API Hub, Test Hub, and Insight Hub. These facilitate comprehensive API development, testing, and production readiness.

Alongside the DevOps Academy initiative, SmartBear is expanding its presence in the region through strategic partnerships, the most recent of which is Netpoleon India. This underscores the company's ongoing commitment to supporting the demand for software development solutions in India and the wider APAC area.
