India PC shipments hit record 15.9 million in 2025

Thu, 5th Mar 2026

India's PC market shipped 15.9 million units in 2025, according to IDC, the highest annual volume on record.

The traditional PC category, which includes desktops, notebooks and workstations, grew 10.2% year on year. Fourth-quarter shipments reached 4.1 million units, up 18.5% from a year earlier.

Notebooks remained the largest category and drove market expansion. Shipments rose 12.4% for the year and 23.9% in the fourth quarter, while desktops grew 3.6% in 2025 and 6.2% in the quarter.

Workstations posted the fastest annual growth of the three categories, with shipments increasing 24.2% in 2025 and 18.7% in the final quarter.

Premium notebooks priced above USD $1,000 also expanded, with shipments up 8.2% year on year. AI-enabled notebooks were a notable contributor, with shipments rising 129.3% from the previous year.

Basic AI notebooks accounted for 86.6% of AI notebook shipments, supported mainly by enterprise demand and consumer promotions. GenAI notebooks gained ground in the consumer market, where Apple's MacBook range held a 70.9% share of that category, IDC said.

Commercial demand

The commercial segment remained the main source of market growth, with shipments reaching 8.6 million units in 2025. Within that, the enterprise segment grew 20.9%, while small and medium-sized businesses posted 8.2% growth.

Fourth-quarter commercial shipments totalled 2.6 million units, driven by strong enterprise demand and partial fulfilment of the ELCOT manifesto deal.

The consumer segment shipped 7.3 million units in 2025, up 3.6% year on year. Online demand during festive sales and heavy channel stocking supported the annual result, though delayed supplies contributed to a 2.6% decline in fourth-quarter consumer shipments.

Sales through eTail channels continued to rise, growing 12% in 2025 and 5.2% in the fourth quarter as vendors expanded reach and used discounting to attract buyers.

"PC shipments in the consumer segment grew YoY for the second consecutive year, driven by rising demand across use cases such as media consumption, content creation, and gaming," said Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India & South Asia. "PCs are evolving beyond traditional productivity tasks. Adoption for advanced content creation, high-end gaming, and virtual learning is revitalizing the category. AI PCs and growing vendor investments in AI capabilities are expected to further accelerate demand. However, processor shortages in late 2025 led to temporary supply constraints," added Shenoy.

Vendor rankings

HP led the Indian PC market in 2025 with a 29.1% share, retaining the top position in both consumer and commercial sales. Its commercial business grew 18.7% year on year, supported by enterprise demand and continued momentum among small and medium-sized businesses, while consumer sales fell 9.4% amid stronger competition and weaker demand for its OmniBook line.

Lenovo ranked second with an 18.7% market share. It captured 19.9% of the commercial market and 17.3% of the consumer market, helped by refreshed demand in business sales and, on the consumer side, stronger interest in gaming notebooks, wider retail distribution and eTail pricing.

Dell placed third with a 15.1% share. Its commercial business grew 18.3% year on year, supported by demand from global accounts and a broader AMD-based portfolio. However, inventory clearance in the first half and supply constraints in the fourth quarter contributed to a 27.7% fall in overall shipments.

Acer followed closely with a 15.0% share. Enterprise orders and partial fulfilment of the ELCOT order supported results, while consumer growth of 15.7% was driven by demand for entry-level notebooks and a stronger push through eTail channels.

ASUS completed the top five with a 7.6% share. Its consumer business grew 12.0% through expansion in large-format retail outlets, while commercial sales rose 98.3% as it expanded beyond eTail into offline channels.

Cost pressures

The outlook for 2026 remains cautious as higher component prices are expected to weigh on affordability. IDC pointed to rising costs for DDR memory, graphics processors and central processors.

"Despite strong performance in 2025, rising component costs are creating significant headwinds," said Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President, Devices Research, IDC India, South Asia & ANZ.

"PC prices have already increased by over 10% YoY and could rise another 15-20% in the coming quarters, and particularly impact price-sensitive segments such as SMBs and the government. Processor shortages may also limit entry-level PC availability, potentially shifting some demand toward alternative devices like tablets and smartphones," added Singh.
