3t Drilling Systems partners with ONGC for advanced training simulator
3t Drilling Systems has secured a new agreement with India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to provide its advanced simulator technology, DrillSIM:6000, to the Institute of Drilling Technology (IDT) in Dehradun. This partnership aims to enhance IDT's training capabilities, as it is a well-known research and development centre that provides technical training to national and international oil companies.
DrillSIM:6000 is a sophisticated cyberbase simulator designed for drilling and well control training. It offers features such as a dual-chair configuration, a high-resolution video wall, and immersive virtual reality scenarios. The simulator can be customised to emulate various rig types, including Drillship, Jackup, and Land rig simulations, to provide a realistic training environment for diverse drilling operations.
The deal was secured after a competitive tender and is expected to bolster 3t's network of collaborators in South Asia. The installation of the DrillSIM:6000 is scheduled for Q4 of 2024 and will be executed in partnership with Siam Services India, 3t's in-country partner. This is part of 3t's commitment to delivering advanced training solutions that meet international standards, aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency in drilling operations.
Clive Battisby, Chief Operating Officer of 3t Drilling Systems, recently visited ONGC IDT facilities to discuss and review plans for the installation. During his visit, he met with IDT Head, K. Rajendra Babu, and other project members to finalise details of the collaboration.
"It is an honour to collaborate with ONGC IDT in bringing the DrillSIM:6000 to their esteemed institute. This simulator represents the pinnacle of our technological advancements, so we look forward to seeing it enhance the training capabilities at IDT," commented Battisby.
"Our goal is to support IDT in developing a highly skilled workforce equipped with the latest drilling technologies, ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient drilling operations. We believe this is a vital first step in achieving that."
The Institute of Drilling Technology, a part of ONGC, is known for its commitment to promoting cost-effective exploration and production activities through continuous research and development. The integration of the DrillSIM:6000 is expected to further strengthen this mission by providing comprehensive training for various drilling operations, thereby raising the standards of technical knowledge and training provided at the institute.
The agreement marks a significant milestone for 3t Drilling Systems in its efforts to expand its footprint in India. By providing advanced training technologies, the company aims to contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce in the region, capable of meeting the demands of modern drilling operations.
