Rubrik unveils sovereign cloud to keep sensitive data local
Rubrik has launched Rubrik Security Cloud Sovereign, a new version of its data security platform that the company said keeps data, management and operations within customer-defined jurisdictional boundaries.
The company positioned the product for organisations that face tighter data residency rules and want to reduce the risk of external access to sensitive information.
Rubrik said the offer targets both government and commercial customers operating across multiple countries.
Rubrik said the service provides "complete data sovereignty" across data, metadata, the control plane and management functions. The company said these components operate within customer-designated boundaries.
Sovereignty focus
Rubrik said customers have asked for more certainty over who can access their information and where it sits. The company linked the demand to changing regulation and evolving cyber threats.
"Our customers have been clear about what they need," said Anneka Gupta, Chief Product Officer, Rubrik. "They want certainty that no foreign entity, whether government or vendor, can access or control their data. For those managing sensitive data, sovereignty isn't optional - it's fundamental. Today's announcement reinforces our commitment to helping leaders secure their posture against foreign and domestic adversaries."
Rubrik described the product as part of its roadmap for sovereignty-related features. The company said the announcement represents "immediate progress" on that plan.
Product elements
Rubrik said Rubrik Security Cloud Sovereign includes immutable protection for critical data. The company said immutability prevents encryption, deletion, or alteration even when attackers gain elevated access.
The company said the offering covers workloads across on-premises environments, cloud environments and SaaS services. Rubrik framed this as a recovery and protection measure for organisations that run across multiple infrastructure models.
Rubrik also highlighted threat detection features that it said operate inside the customer environment. It listed analytics, "turbo threat hunting", and automated anomaly identification. The company said these functions run without moving operations outside the customer-designated boundaries.
Deployment choices
Rubrik said customers can deploy the sovereign version across sovereign cloud providers and on-premises infrastructure. The company did not name specific cloud partners in the announcement.
The product arrives as more jurisdictions tighten rules around government access, cross-border transfers and operational control of data systems. Large enterprises also face constraints from industry regulation and contractual requirements with public sector agencies and critical national infrastructure operators.
Rubrik said the new service provides "advanced data protection without compromising data sovereignty". The company framed this as a response to customers that want security controls and detection alongside jurisdictional control.
Availability
Rubrik said early access is available for select customers. It said broader availability will follow.
